Man charged in fatal LRT stabbing

A man is charged of stabbing a 46 year old man on the platform of the City Hall LRT station. According to the police the attack was unprovoked and a criminal charge is being laid on the suspect. City hall LRT station is a CTrain light rail station.

A 39-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the attack on the City Hall LRT station.

Deadly encounter

According to the inspector of the CPS Major Crimes Section, the attack which happened around 6:45 in the evening on the north platform of the City Hall LRT station appeared that it was done randomly. The two men had no past history before the victim was attacked. Transit security personnel followed the suspect who was attempting to board a train going east. The train was stopped immediately by transit control, and police boarded the train and the suspect was immediately arrested.

The victim was identified by policemen as Nicolas Nwonye, 46 year old. He suffered severe wounds in the abdomen. Paramedics provided first aid and stabilized the man. He was immediately rushed to the hospital with his condition becoming worse. Eventually the man died in the hospital.

In the Facebook page of the suspect, he claims that he is from the British Columbia Lower Mainland. He has plenty of history with the police. He has plenty of conviction from 1998 that includes theft, assault with a weapon, robbery, probation breaches and breaking-and-entering houses.

Criminal record

In 2005, the suspect escaped from a minimum-security First Nations healing lodge where he was serving his five-year sentence for two counts of theft, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and robbery. In another page of his Face book, the suspect has been jailed between 2014 and 2015 in both Bowden and Drumheller federal institutions and was later transferred to the Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

This is the second fatal stabbing that happened at the city LRT station this year. A few months ago another victim was stabbed to death at the Sunalta CTrain before 11:30 in the evening. The victim was identified as Eric Lavalle, 52 years old.
