Mall security guard saves a life with CPR

When Pamela Morgan collapsed, she was lucky that someone saved her life.

A South Surrey security guard was recognized as a hero for his quick action. He was given credit for saving the life of a senior at Semiahmoo Shopping Centre.

Cameron Hubley was given BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) Vital Link Award. The award was created to honor the actions of one or more bystanders during a cardiac arrest emergency. He was working at the mall last March when he received an alert that a woman collapsed.

Hubley started to deliver chest compressions and continued until the AED was available.

Rescue at the mall

After he received the call, he turned around and saw her on the ground. He knew that something is wrong since she was not moving. Morgan suffered a heart attack. When Hubley arrived, she was bleeding from her head and turned blue.

When the incident happened, she immediately went backward into the ground and struck her head. Hubley ensured that the crew brought medkits. Her face was turning blue and not breathing and no pulse. He also instructed a bystander to obtain a nearby defibrillator.

Hubley started to deliver chest compressions and continued until the AED was available. Once it arrived, Hubley instructed a bystander to take over with the CPR while he step up the device. When the device indicated the need for a shock, he administered one.

The paramedics shortly arrived and took over. Morgan was quickly rushed to a healthcare facility with a pulse and life-saving surgery was performed.
