Although the government imposed safety protocols in an attempt to limit the spread of COVID-19, some do not follow the rules. A $2,300 penalty was given by the Kelowna RCMP to the organizer of a protest in the downtown area. The protest went against the public health orders associated to the prevention of COVID-19.
The name of the organizer was not released. It is the third time that a fine was issued to the person for organizing a large gathering. It opposes the measures aimed to limit the spread of COVID-19. Gatherings of large crowds can put everyone at risk for the virus, especially those that do not wear masks or observe physical distancing.
The number of people who attended the event was not revealed. Just a week ago, the RCMP also issued a $2,300 fine to an organizer of an anti-mask rally involving 125 people.
Back in December, the first fine was issued for a protest that involved around 1,000 people.
In a statement by the RCMP, people have the right to protest, but officers are responsible for balancing that right with the potential health risks brought about by large gatherings.
