Family thanks Good Samaritan for saving baby

An Island family Cody McEachern and his girlfriend Corinne McQuillan were driving home from shopping when McEachern heard unusual voices coming from their baby about 8 months old. The baby was seated in the backseat.

Saving a life

McEachern stopped the car near the Nissan dealership in Charlottetown. They found out that their baby Archer was having a seizure. The face of Archer was starting to turn blue and his eyes were rolling to the back of his head. The couple panicked and jumped out of the car.

Panicking, McEachern pulled Archer out of the car. The baby was unresponsive and limp.

In a few minutes, a bus passed by and a woman who has just gotten out of the bus saw two people panicking and holding a baby. The woman immediately runs towards them. She picked the baby up and immediately provided CPR on the baby. She started smacking the back of Archer and eventually, Archer started coughing, cried and started to calm down.

There were more cars stopped over and tried to help the couple. The woman got Archer to calm down and breathe normally. The paramedics arrived and checked again on the baby and immediately brought to the hospital for further treatment.

The couple, McEachern and McQuillan did not have the chance to get the name of the Good Samaritan who helped them revive Archer.

The mother of McEachern posted on Facebook about the incident and request information about the Good Samaritan woman walking in that area that night. In just an hour the mysterious woman was identified as Justyn Caldwell.

Caldwell is a preschool teacher. She also takes CPR and First Aid training every three years. According to Caldwell, she spent the whole night thinking about the baby she helped. She was happy when she saw in a Facebook post looking for her.

When I walked away from the area, I didn’t know what happened afterward but I knew the baby was already in good hands, he’s home and doing great. And that makes me happy.

McEachern and McQuillan were both very grateful for the fast actions of Caldwell by providing CPR on Archer. She was in control of the situation and has the self-confidence of what she is doing. They also thanked the people who stopped their cars and tried to help them with their baby.
