Paramedics helped victims of a school shooting in La Loche. Cousins Kalvin Jones and Darryl Morin recalled the call was responded to an emergency at Dene High School. Upon entering the site, they knew that the shooter was still in the building.
Jones was performing CPR on a wounded person when the door abruptly opened, expecting the worse. Nevertheless, it was a student who has been hiding.
Brave actions
Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented them with bronze medals from the Royal Canadian Humane Association. The two men from Ile-a-la-Crosse suffered the effects of the traumatic call but found support and resolved to continue with their careers.
According to Jones, it was chaos upon arrival on the scene. They have fully confident that the RCMP will keep them safe and secure. They led the way and both followed.
Based on the citation, Morin and Jones with the assistance of the RCMP protection were able to extricate several severely injured victims, delivered emergency care and assisted at the hospital as part of the health team.
