Two men who were pulled from Salt Spring Island lake were given CPR. The B.C Coroners Service is investigating the mysterious deaths of 2 men who were close to the shore when they slipped under the surface of a calm lake.
The Salt Spring Fire Department who were the first emergency responders on the scene was called out to the lake about a drowning according to Acting Fire Chief Arjuna George.
Danger in the water
The bystanders had already brought one man to the shore and were performing CPR when the firefighters arrived and took over attempts to resuscitate the man. As people in the lake used paddleboards to help find the second man, about 50 feet off the shore, the firefighters deployed their inland water rescue boat.
When the boat was launched, the firefighters quickly spotted the man and pulled him on board and quickly started CPR. Both men were in cardiac arrest when they were pulled out of the water. Both men appeared to be in their 20s. They were transported by B.C. Ambulance to Lady Minto Hospital.
A third man who was with the men talked to the Salt Spring RCMP on shore. The incident occurred close to shore. A floating public dock is beyond where the men were retrieved. Another private dock is at the side of the incident. There were people swimming in the small lake and on shore when the incident occurred.
