A 6-year old boy who drowned was given CPR. The incident occurred in a North Vancouver creek. The child nearly drowned in a similar incident last year.
Watery ordeal
Vondrae Martin was found facing down in his grandparents’ pool in March 2013 and spent a month recovering in BC Children’s Hospital. His grandmother, a former nurse, received a BC Ambulance Service award for pulling him out of the water and performing CPR until the arrival of the paramedics.
Sadly, the happy ending of the family turned into heartbreak this week. Martin was reported missing in the Bowron Court area of North Vancouver. The Mounties, search crews and the ambulance personnel were called to help find him.
The officers discovered the boy unresponsive in Taylor Creek minutes after arriving, just meters from his family home. Sadly, help came too late this time.
Considering Martin’s death, Mounties are warning the public that creeks and rivers are swollen and fast-running after heavy rainfall in the area.
