The mother of the newborn was grocery shopping at the Real Canadian Superstore with her 2 children – 2-year old daughter and 6-week old Evan. While in the parking lot, Evan started to foam at the mouth and turned into a shade of blue. His heart ceased to beat.

Absence of a pulse

Buys was at a traffic stop in the area when he heard a 911 call on the radio. He quickly left to attend to the scene. As he pulled into the parking lot of the store, he was greeted by a crying mother holding her child.

Buys placed Evan on the back seat in his police cruiser and noticed that the child was not breathing and had no pulse. He quickly started CPR.
