A 5-year old child who was pulled from Calgary retention pond received CPR. The residents in Saddle Ridge are grieving after a 5-year old, identified by a family friend as Raheel Uddin. The child died after being pulled from a retention pond in the northeast.
Watery ordeal
The emergency crews were notified that a child was missing in the community of Saddle Ridge near 88th Avenue and 60th Street N.E. The police confirmed that Uddin died some time after being pulled from the water.
According to Saima Jamal, co-founder of the Syrian Refugee Support Group, Uddin and his family came to Canada from Bangladesh. The boy had autism and an attraction to water. Uddin’s mother, Rozina Mina had to keep an eye on him 24-7. She recently quit her job as a paralegal two years ago to look after Uddin full time.
Many members of the family were home when Uddin went missing. The family believes the young boy may have snuck out a back door before heading down to the retention pond.
Uddin was found in the water by a concerned resident who was out looking for the missing youngster. The officers on scene performed CPR before the EMS arrived at the pond.
Stuart Brideaux with AHS confirmed the boy was initially taken to the Peter Lougheed Centre in life-threatening condition after he was pulled from the pond.
