A 3-year old boy is recovering after a crash in the water. The child was strapped into a seat atop an ATV carrying rack which was submerged in a slough. The child was dangling underwater.
ATV accident
According to the RCMP, the crash occurred in a rural region in the northwest area of Hudson Bay. There were 7 people traveling together on 3 ATVs.
The ATVs used have the 4-wheeled structure which is called quads. In one of the quads, it had a child car seat strapped to the rear rack secured in place with straps. A 3-year old was on the seat while his father was operating the quad. At one point, the quad with the car seat rolled and rested upside down, submerged in a slough. The child in the car seat ended up trapped underwater for a brief span of time before pulled out by others in the group.
According to the police, when the child was pulled from the seat, he was unresponsive. CPR was performed to revive the child. The family members brought the child to a healthcare facility in Hudson Bay.
The child was later flown via air ambulance to Saskatoon for follow-up care and monitoring. According to the police, alcohol is not a contributing factor in the crash and investigation is still ongoing.
