In a tweet by the Chinese Embassy, it stated that it will be sending up to 30,000 medical face masks along with personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns and goggles.
Based on a statement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the federal health authorities will strictly ensure that all the face masks along with other equipment given by China will undergo inspection to ensure that they comply with the standards in protecting healthcare workers against COVID-19.
The statement is in response with reports in which the Dutch government recalled around 600,000 defective face masks that came from China and were distributed to healthcare facilities in the Netherlands.
The Chinese Embassy in Ottawa tweeted that China was sending 30,000 medical masks along with gowns, goggles, and gloves to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
There have been reports of Canadian hospitals rationing masks and other protective gear as they wait for fresh supplies to arrive amidst the global shortage of such equipment.
