Bystanders utilize defibrillator to save boy in cardiac arrest

The quick actions of bystanders in using a defibrillator saved the life of a boy. Without the rapid action, the outcome would have been a different one.

Bystanders helped in reviving a 15-year old who collapsed while playing futsal at Sir Robert Borden High School on Greenbank Road. Luckily, an automated external defibrillator at the school was utilized.

The boy was playing in a futsal tournament when he collapsed. The sport is a version of indoor soccer played using a slightly smaller ball.

There was a cardiologist on the scene who performed CPR while others retrieved the defibrillator. The boy was given a single shock before the arrival of the paramedics. The paramedics continued with the resuscitation efforts and gave additional shocks before his pulse was restored.
