After a man collapses while jogging, bystanders did not hesitate to act. One of the bystanders pulled over his vehicle to perform CPR. Another called for emergency assistance and ran to Fire Station 53 to alert firefighters. In no time, they arrived to administer shocks using a portable defibrillator.
On the right spot
With the help of the unidentified bystanders, the 59-year old man was revived on site according to the fire department. The paramedics confirmed that the man was conscious when they arrived, rushed to a healthcare facility in severe but stable condition.
One of the things that the unidentified bystanders did right was to call emergency assistance first.
If more than one person is present to aid, the fire department recommends on delegating tasks such as delivering first aid care and flagging down the first responders.
It is also recommended to enroll in a first aid and CPR course. Remember that quick recognition and management with a defibrillator and CPR is the key in surviving cardiac arrest. First aid training is essential life-saving skill that will surely come in handy during emergencies.
