A teacher at Basinview Drive Community School in Bedford, N.S. saves husband with prompt first aid.
Saving a loved one
When Kyle Schmeisser returned home after playing hockey, he was complaining of chest pain along with pain down his arm. He told his wife, Trisha, that it was indigestion.
The couple was at the front of their home debating on what to do. Tricia wanted to call 911 but Kyle wanted her to drive him to the hospital. It was then that he collapsed near their front door.
Tricia immediately called 911 and the dispatcher guided her on what to do. According to Sylvain Jacquard, one of the paramedics who arrived on the scene, Tricia’s effort made a difference in how things turned out.
According to Kyle, if his wife was not there and did not respond quickly, he would not be around watching the kids playing hockey. The couple is also highlighting the importance of having first aid training.
