B.C. transit agencies encourage face masks

As everyone starts to embrace the “new normal”, the transit agencies all over the province are making changes. It is necessary action as B.C. enters Phase Two of its reopening plan.

Based on the statement by BC Transit, they are encouraging the use of face coverings while riding buses or at bus stops. The move is in line with the face mask recommendations released by the federal government.

In Metro Vancouver, TransLink stated that riders can enhance their personal safety and that of fellow passengers by wearing a non-medical mask. People who do not need to travel during peak times, especially those at higher risk for the virus are being asked to travel at less busy times.

The two transit authorities promised to adhere to protocols that maintain the proper capacity in line with the physical distancing guidelines. Riders will enter via the front doors and leave through the back.

Both started the installation of plexiglass or vinyl barriers to protect bus drivers. PPE will also be provided to drivers while also increasing sanitizing measures such as regular cleanings with disinfectants.
