A Toronto woman helped save a life of a man in cardiac arrest. Alex Jade, 29-years old was working out at GoodLife Fitness club when a man collapsed on the floor.
She noticed a staff member carrying an AED and casually walking towards a man lying on the floor. According to Jade, the man was on the ground with eyes rolled back and turning blue. The staff member simply placed the defibrillator down and took a few steps away and did not even turned the device on.
Act right away
Jade had training in CPR before becoming a flight attendant. She is also an actress who recently returned from the Sundance Film Festival and starred in 2 movies.
Jade knew that someone can end up with lasting brain damage in just 4 minutes without oxygen. She quickly turned on the defibrillator, attached the electrodes and delivered a shock. She started chest compressions for up to 10 minutes until the arrival of the paramedics.
According to Jaroslaw Zabrzycki, 51-years old, he would have died if Jade did not intervene. He was transported to a healthcare facility where he underwent surgery for 2 clogged arteries. The angioplasty involved the insertion of stents into the arteries to promote improved blood flow to the heart.
