A 22-year old man who drowned while swimming was given CPR. The incident occurred in the Township of Whitewater Region. It occurred just before 6:30 PM in the Ottawa River, around 120 kilometers northwest of Ottawa.
The man, who was a guest of OWL Rafting was swimming when he went underwater. He was found and pulled to shore and CPR was initiated. Upon the arrival of the paramedics, he was transported to a hospital but was later declared dead.
OWL Rafting has been operating for 40 years and has never experienced a drowning where thousands of visitors go rafting down the water each summer. The man was visiting with a group of friends and had only recently arrived when he went swimming, went underwater, and did not resurface.
