Face masks must be worn inside all retail stores, restaurants, entertainment venues, recreation centers, and vehicle-for-hire services in Edmonton.
The mandatory mask rule, which the council approved will require residents to wear a face-covering in all publicly-accessible indoor spaces until the end of 2020 in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The rule will not currently apply to buildings under provincial jurisdiction including schools, hospitals, and childcare facilities, but the city council does have the authority to amend the bylaw to include those areas.
Several exemptions to the rule include children under the age of two, people who are unable to place or use a mask without assistance, and people with mental or physical concerns or limitations that prevent them from wearing a mask.
