For an Ottawa police officer, it is important for everyone to be prepared during emergencies. The police officer attempted to save a young man who drowned. While saving the man, he saw some people stand by and do nothing.
The police officer was off duty at Lac Leamy with family and friends when they heard people screaming for help. They ran to the scene closer to shore where a 24-year old man was lying on the ground unconscious after being pulled out of the lake.
The young man had been in the water for around 10-15 minutes before anyone found him and a bystander was performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation onshore. The officer recalled his training and told the bystander to stop doing mouth-to-mouth breathing. Instead of doing mouth-to-mouth, he delivered compressions. For every compression, water would gush out of his mouth.
