In a roadside rescue, a nurse saved the life of a man who was lying lifeless in a ditch. She drew from her training as a nurse to provide the stranger with chest compressions and CPR.
Larissa Arthur was driving back from a hike with her friend. They were just outside of Calgary near Springbank Road when she spotted a man passed out in a ditch, with a bike nearby, wearing bright yellow spandex. She assumed that the man was hit by a car. She checked his pulse and breathing, but both were absent.
She quickly got to work and within two minutes, another nurse and first responder also arrived to help. It was 15 minutes later when the EMS arrived and shocked the man twice, attempting to resuscitate him.
Without any signs of life, as the man was transported by emergency crews to a hospital, Arthur shared she did not think that the man was going to make it.
