A man who collapsed on the bus was given CPR. When Nicole Bade got on the bus, she was an ordinary college student. When they reached Mohawk College, she was able to save someone’s life.
Emergency on the bus
Bade, 30-years old headed to her early childhood education (ECE) classes around 8:20 AM when a man collapsed in front of her on the bus. She quickly performed CPR on him. According to paramedics, it was a move that saved his life.
At the time of the incident, Bade was using a wheelchair due to a knee injury. A 70-year old man stood about a foot away from her and he collapsed. The passengers helped him into a seat. Within a minute, he had two more seizures.
The bus was parked at the college at this point as the driver headed back to help. One of the passengers called out if anyone knows CPR. It was then that Bade ignored the pain in her knee and got out of her chair.
She learned CPR last fall for one of her ECE courses, but she has not used it. Bade stated that she is uncertain on how long she did chest compressions before the arrival of the paramedics.
