Standard First Aid (also known as Intermediate First Aid) is a 2-day, Alberta OH&S-approved course that covers a wide range of emergencies and injuries. This course is required in many workplaces across Alberta and is often a mandatory certification for healthcare, education, childcare, construction, and industrial roles.
When you register for Standard First Aid, you can choose one of the following CPR certifications:
- CPR Level C + AED – Includes adult, child, and infant CPR
- CPR Level BLS (HCP) – For healthcare professionals requiring Basic Life Support skills
All levels include AED training and meet St. Mark James Training standards, ensuring you’re certified with a nationally recognized provider.

The cost for the Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR with AED training is $134.99, with CPR Level “C” included as the standard option.
Candidates in this course will cover the following topics:

Take your Standard first aid course in one of training centres located in North and South Edmonton. CPR for adults, children and infants.
- Conscious and unconscious obstructed victims (Choking).
- Respiratory emergencies.
- Circulatory emergencies (includes heart attacks, angina and strokes).
- Deadly bleeding.
- Internal bleeding.
- Fractures and broken bones.

- Poisons.
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
At the end of the Standard First Aid Certification course, candidates must complete a multiple-choice examination. A minimum score of 75% is required to pass and receive certification.
At Edmonton First Aid, we understand that everyone learns at their own pace and in different ways. If a candidate doesn’t successfully complete the course on their first attempt, they are welcome to retake the course at no additional cost.

Refunds are not available within 72 hours of the scheduled course start date. Transfers requested within this period will incur a $25 fee. For refund or transfer requests made more than 72 hours before the course, a full refund will be issued. Please note that no refunds are provided for rescheduled events.

Our Standard First Aid & CPR course is delivered over two full days (typically 13–16 hours, depending on class mix and instructor).
You’ll cover:

- Bone, muscle, joint injuries
- Sudden medical conditions (heart attack, stroke, allergic reactions)

Your Standard First Aid & CPR certificate (issued via St Mark James Training) is valid for three (3) years in Alberta, per Alberta OHS regulations.
Yes — if your certificate is still active (not expired), you can take a recertification option (one day) and significantly cheaper to extend it by another 3 years.
Under Alberta OHS rules, many workplaces must ensure certain staff hold approved first aid certification. The level (Emergency, Standard, etc.) depends on the industry risk, number of employees, and location. All our Standard First Aid courses meet Alberta OHS standards.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, we require a minimum 24–48 hours’ notice (or whatever your policy is). Refunds, transfers, or credits may apply — check our full terms during registration.
No formal prerequisites are required. However, participants must be able to understand course materials, engage actively, and perform basic physical tasks (kneeling, bending, lifting arms). Comfortable clothing and a photo ID are recommended.
