The Standard Childcare First Aid, CPR, and AED course is a comprehensive 14 to 16-hour program, typically completed over two days.

This course is ideal for:

This 2-day course focuses on child- and infant-specific emergencies, including choking, respiratory distress, and allergic reactions, while also covering essential adult first aid techniques.

This specialized course prepares you to respond to emergencies involving infants, children, and adults. You will learn CPR (child and adult), AED use, choking management, shock, bleeding, sudden medical conditions, and child-specific illnesses and injuries (e.g. febrile seizures, asthma). The focus is on scenarios you’re more likely to face in childcare settings.

Our course is delivered over two full days (typically 14–16 hours, depending on class flow).
There is the option for recertification / renewal in one day if your current certificate is still valid. (If expired, the full two-day course is required again.)
Many childcare first aid courses follow a similar structure.

You’ll be trained in:

  • CPR for adults, children (and infants if your course includes infant module)
  • Proper use of AED / defibrillators
  • Choking rescue for all age groups
  • Bleeding, shock, wound care, fractures
  • Medical emergencies (asthma, allergic reaction, diabetes, seizures, etc.)
  • Environmental injuries (heat, cold, poisoning)
  • Scenario-based practice specific to childcare settings

Hands-on practice, scenario drills, and a final knowledge test are part of the course.

No formal prerequisites. You only need basic reading comprehension and the physical ability to kneel, bend, and use your arms for CPR practice. Comfortable clothing and photo ID are advised.

The fee depends on your location, group size, and course edition (full vs renewal). Our individual participant in classroom cost is $134.99.

Your Standard Childcare First Aid & CPR certificate (from St Mark James Training) is valid for three (3) years.
You must recertify before expiry to maintain valid status for licensing or employment.

Yes. If your certificate has not expired, you are eligible for a recertification / renewal course (usually one day).
If your certificate has expired, you must retake the full two-day course.

Yes. Many childcare licensing guidelines in Alberta demand first aid training covering infants and children, and many programs prefer or require “Childcare First Aid” level certification (covering pediatric scenarios).

If a specialized “Childcare First Aid” course is unavailable, some licensing bodies may accept a comparable standard first aid course that includes childcare modules.
