The CPR HCP / BLS course includes Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and covers all the content from CPR Levels “A” and “C.” Basic Life Support (BLS) training is also available at both our North and South Edmonton classrooms.

The Candidates enrolled in this course will learn to recognize and treat victims that are:
- Unconscious and breathing.
- Unconscious, not breathing with circulation.
- Unconscious, not breathing, and no circulation.
- Unconscious, not breathing with or without circulation using a bag-valve mask.
- Unconscious obstructed airway.
- Conscious obstructed airway.
- Cardiac arrest requires an automated external defibrillator.
- Suffering from cardiovascular emergencies.
Candidates who successfully complete this course will receive a CPR HCP / Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate. AED training is included as a standard part of the CPR HCP course. Recertification courses are available for those looking to renew their previous CPR HCP certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) — also known as CPR HCP (Health Care Provider) — is an advanced CPR course for healthcare professionals and emergency responders. It teaches high-quality CPR techniques, airway management, and coordinated team response for cardiac and respiratory emergencies in clinical settings.
This course is ideal for:

Your BLS / CPR HCP certificate (issued through St Mark James Training) is valid for one (1) year.
Because healthcare standards evolve, annual recertification ensures you stay confident and compliant with current best practices.
Yes! If your certificate is still valid, you can complete a BLS recertification course, which takes approximately 4 hours.
If your certification has expired, you’ll need to complete the full 6-hour course again to regain certification.
Absolutely. BLS / CPR HCP training through St Mark James Training is accepted by hospitals, clinics, post-secondary programs, and healthcare employers throughout Alberta.
Please note: BLS alone is not an Alberta OHS-approved first aid course. For workplace compliance, combine it with Emergency or Standard First Aid & CPR.
