Course Registration, Refund, and Cancellation Policies

  1. Refunds, Transfers, and Cancellations
    1.1. Students are eligible for a full refund or transfer to another course if the request is made at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled start of the course.
    1.2. No refunds, transfers, or cancellations will be processed within 72 hours of the course commencement or once the course has begun.
    1.3. Upon the expiration of the 72-hour window or once the course has started, the registration is considered final, and no refunds or transfers will be provided.
    1.4. Refunds will not be issued once a course certificate has been awarded to the student.
  2. Student Responsibility in Course Selection
    2.1. It is the responsibility of the student to confirm that the course and certification meet the requirements of their employer or educational institution prior to registration.
    2.2. We strongly recommend that students verify the alignment of the selected course with any relevant institutional or workplace requirements before enrolling.
    2.3. No refunds will be provided for incorrect course selection within 72 hours of the course start date, nor after the course has commenced. Refunds will also not be issued after the issuance of a certificate.
  3. Course Requirements and Conduct
    3.1. English Language Proficiency: Students must possess sufficient comprehension of the English language to fully participate in the course.
    3.2. In the event that a student encounters difficulties due to language barriers, they may retake the course at no additional cost, provided they successfully complete both the skills demonstration and written exam.
    3.3. If the student fails the course after the second attempt, they shall pay the full course fee to retake the course.
    3.4. Behavioral Expectations: Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate conduct during all course sessions. Disruptive behavior or refusal to follow instructions will result in removal from the course, with all fees forfeited.
    3.5. Physical Requirements: Students must be capable of performing floor-based work as part of the course. Students with physical disabilities or limitations are required to contact customer service prior to booking to ensure they meet the necessary requirements for participation in First Aid training.
    3.6. Medical Disclosure: All medical conditions or limitations that could impact participation or safety must be disclosed during the booking process. Failure to disclose such conditions may result in denial of participation and forfeiture of fees.
  4. Course Upgrades
    4.1. Students may request an upgrade to a higher-level course within 30 days of completing the initial course.
    4.2. If more than 30 days have passed, the student must pay the full price of the upgraded course.
    4.3. When upgrading within the 30-day period, students will only be charged the price difference between the original and upgraded course.
    4.4. To qualify for an upgrade, the student must complete the entire course, including both the skills demonstration and written exam.
  5. Non-Attendance and Late Arrival
    5.1. Non-Attendance: Students who fail to attend a scheduled course without prior notification shall forfeit all course fees.
    5.2. Late Arrival: Students who arrive more than 10 minutes after the scheduled course start time will be denied entry to the course. No refunds or rescheduling will be allowed within 72 hours of the course start time or once the course has commenced.
    5.3. Late arrivals will be required to pay the full course fee to reschedule and retake the course.
  6. Rescheduling and Break Policies
    6.1. Students must adhere to the designated break times provided during the course.
    6.2. Failure to return on time from breaks may result in the requirement to reschedule the course, subject to a $25 rescheduling fee.
  7. Course Completion and Exam Requirements
    7.1. To successfully complete the course, students must pass both the skills demonstration and written exam. The instructor shall determine the student’s performance and whether they pass or fail the course.
    7.2. If a student fails either component of the course, the course will be deemed unsuccessful. Both components must be passed to achieve course completion.
    7.3. Retake Policy: If a student fails the course, they are entitled to a free retake if both components were attempted during the first course session. If the student fails a second time, they must pay the full course fee to retake the course.
  8. Downgrade Policy
    8.1. Downgrades to a different or lower-level course are not permitted once a course has been purchased. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the correct course is selected at the time of booking.
  9. Administration Fee
    9.1. All course fees include a $25 administration fee, which is charged at the time of initial booking.
  10. Child and Guardian Policy
    10.1. Babies are not permitted in the classroom under any circumstances.
    10.2. Children aged 12-16 may attend the course, provided they are accompanied by a guardian at all times.
    10.3. Courses for children aged 12-16 must be scheduled on a weekday. Failure to comply with this policy will result in a $25 rescheduling fee.
  11. First Aid Certification
    11.1. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an Alberta OHS First Aid certification that meets CSA standards and is recognized by employers and educational institutions.
  12. Lost Certification
    12.1. In the event a student loses their certification card, a replacement may be requested for a $25 fee. The replacement card must be collected at the location where the original course was completed.
  13. Class Cancellations
    13.1. The organization reserves the right to cancel any course if the minimum required class size, as dictated by provincial standards, is not met.
    13.2. In the event of cancellation, students will be given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
    13.3. The organization is not responsible for any additional costs incurred by the student due to course cancellation, including travel or lodging expenses.
  14. Recertification
    14.1. Students must ensure their certification is valid to attend the course. No refunds or transfers will be granted to students without a valid certificate on the day of the course.
    14.2. If a student’s certification has expired or is otherwise invalid, the student must purchase the relevant course to meet certification requirements.
  15. Online/Blended Courses
    15.1. Online or blended courses are non-refundable once purchased.
    15.2. Students must register for the in-person component of the course within 45 days of purchasing the online portion. Failure to register within this time frame will require the student to repurchase the online course to continue with the in-person component.
    15.3. Rescheduling of the in-person component must occur at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled course start time. No rescheduling or refunds will be granted within 72 hours of the course start time.
    15.4. If a student misses the in-person component, they will be required to pay the full course fee to retake the class.
  16. Medical Emergencies
    16.1. In the case of a medical emergency, the organization may, at its sole discretion, allow rescheduling outside of the usual policy guidelines. This rescheduling will be subject to a $25 rescheduling fee.
    16.2. A doctor’s note, including the contact details of the attending physician, must be provided to support the request for rescheduling due to a medical emergency.
  17. Cash Payment and Non-Attendance
    17.1. Students who opt to pay in cash and fail to attend the course must pay the full course fee via credit card to reschedule, along with a $25 rescheduling fee.
  18. Force Majeure
    18.1. The organization shall not be held liable for any delays or failure to meet its obligations due to events beyond its control, including but not limited to natural disasters, pandemics, government restrictions, or other emergencies.

3M Mask Fit Test – Terms and Conditions

  • 1.1 The Participant must arrive with a clean-shaven face in the areas where the mask makes contact, specifically around the nose, mouth, and chin.
  • 1.2 A proper seal is required for the mask to function effectively. Facial hair may prevent a proper seal, which could lead to an unsuccessful fit test.
  • 1.3 The Participant should trim or shave facial hair prior to the test to ensure a valid fit. If the fit test is unsuccessful due to facial hair, the Participant will be required to pay the full price for a new fit test on a future date.
  1. No Strong Fragrances or Scents
  • 2.1 The Participant must avoid wearing strong perfumes, colognes, lotions, or any other scented products prior to the fit test.
  • 2.2 Strong scents may interfere with the qualitative fit test, especially if taste or smell is used during the testing process, leading to inaccurate results.
  1. No Smoking or Eating Before the Test
  • 3.1 The Participant must not smoke, eat, or drink for at least 15 minutes before the scheduled fit test.
  • 3.2 Smoking, eating, or drinking may alter sensory responses required for the test, potentially resulting in an invalid fit test.
  1. Health Status
  • 4.1 If the Participant is experiencing any respiratory conditions (such as a cold, asthma, or respiratory infections), it is recommended to reschedule the test.
  • 4.2 Health conditions can affect the Participant’s ability to complete the test effectively, and may result in inaccurate test results.
  1. Failure to Follow Instructions
  • 5.1 The Participant acknowledges that failure to follow the instructions outlined above may result in an unsuccessful fit test.
  • 5.2 In the event of an unsuccessful test due to non-compliance, the Participant will be required to pay the full price for a new fit test and schedule a new appointment.

Liability Release and Acknowledgment

By enrolling in the course, the student acknowledges and agrees to the following:

  1. Assumption of Risk: The student understands that First Aid training involves physical activities, including floor work, and voluntarily assumes all risks associated with participation in the course.
  2. Injury Disclaimer: The student releases the company, its instructors, and affiliates from liability for any injuries or damages arising during or after the course, regardless of cause.
  3. Use of Knowledge: The student assumes full responsibility for any actions taken based on knowledge gained in the course, including providing First Aid or emergency assistance in real-life situations. The student acknowledges that First Aid is not a substitute for professional medical care.
  4. Medical Conditions: The student agrees to notify the instructor and customer service of any medical conditions or physical limitations that may affect their participation prior to booking.

Mask Fit Testing Liability Release Agreement

This agreement applies to participants undergoing mask fit testing with Vancouver First Aid Ltd.

  1. Acknowledgment of Risk: The participant acknowledges that mask fit testing may cause discomfort or other adverse reactions from wearing a respirator or protective mask for extended periods.
  2. Waiver and Release of Liability: The participant releases the company from any claims or damages arising from the mask fit testing process, including skin irritation, discomfort, or breathing difficulties.
  3. Fit Guarantee: The company does not guarantee a perfect mask fit for all participants but will assist in adjusting the mask or offer alternative solutions. The company is not liable for how the mask fits outside the testing environment, including any issues arising from weight changes or facial hair. The mask fit may change if the participant loses weight or grows facial hair, and the company is not responsible for adjustments or failures in mask performance in these circumstances.
  4. Health Disclaimer: The participant confirms that they are in good health and capable of undergoing mask fit testing. Any known health concerns must be disclosed prior to the test.
  5. Indemnity: The participant agrees to indemnify the company from any claims arising from the mask fit testing process.

By enrolling, the student agrees to indemnify the St Mark James Training/Edmonton First Aid from any claims arising from their participation in the course, including claims arising from negligence or failure to comply with these policies.
