Ear burning sensation

The ear burning sensation in, on or around the ear might cause it to feel inflamed, swollen and tender as well as warm to the touch. Various causes of burning and inflammation are associated to an infection which occurs if viruses, bacteria or other microorganisms enter the body. The immune system reacts by triggering symptoms such as warmth, redness and swelling.

The ear burning sensation is often linked to otitis media with effusion where the Eustachian tube is blocked with fluid and becomes infected. It is important to note that the Eustachian tube links the ear to the throat and allows drainage of fluid from the middle ear. In case fluid accumulates, it causes the middle ear to become infected.
